♦ ArE YoU a NibbLeR? ♦
♦ I received a text message from a friend which was more or less constructed this way…”There will come a point in your life when you’ll get tired of chasing perfection, wherein you’re trying to fix everything. It’s not giving up though, it’s just a realization that you don’t need those people who had never done good things to you, because what you need are those people who will stand by you even if you never need them and they don’t expect something in return…”I was taken aback by it. I realized that there are indeed inevitable things in this world. You’ll never know who your true friends are unless you’ll have a close interpersonal relationship with them. In the first place, what is a friend? A friend is someone who will accept you for who you are, who will be there for you through thick and thin, who will love and understand you despite your weaknesses, who will help you stand when you stumble and fall from your infinite mistakes, and who will praise you for your achievements…not envious, not jealous, not to be pitied. Is it very idealistic to define a friend in such a way? I guess not, but oftentimes, it is hard to find that one in a million person. Mutual understanding and reciprocity are sometimes too elusive. In this vast and uncanny world, how could we possibly find that person? We have our own set of friends, but for once in your life, did you ever asked yourself if your friends are for real or they are just for reel? Maybe you can name a few, but there will always be a stand-out nibbler among them, and for that you should beware. What is a nibbler? Let us put it this way, a nibbler is an antonym, the exact opposite meaning of a true friend. In other words, he or she is a person who have the capacity to make your life a living hell. Certainly, a back-stabber! So, in order to maintain a quiet and serene life, stay out of their goddamn life! Why should you stick around in the company of people who only like you for what you have and not for what you are? They are there when they need you, but when you need them, they will leave you alone…shattered and broken. So, being with them is just a mere torture to a soul who do not falter to believe in friendship. They are like chameleons, they possess different colors depending on the situation they are into. They will love you for the thousands of things you’ve done for them yet will hate you for a single mistake. Am i writing all of these in behalf of myself? Certainly! But it’s more reflected towards the people who, in one way or another, done a lot of good things but what they get in return are dishonesty, betrayal and unbelongingness. In Filipino term, it’s what we call “walang utang na loob.” How pathetic! Yes, sometimes life is so unfair. If you fight them, you’ll lose. Why? Because they are great manipulators! They can manipulate the people around them even the most educated ones. So, better not stoop below their level. I firmly believe in karma. As a person, we have our own strengths and weaknesses, we are not perfect. We have our own mistakes in the past, in our present and definitely in the future. But those mistakes are just challenges to make us better. As we continue towards the journey of life, those mistakes will serve as pillars of success. But what is success if we don’t love our fellowmen as the Lord God commanded us to do? Isn’t it real happiness is in helping others? Or is it too much for the nibblers to define happiness because they simply do not comprehend the real essence of that word? Sometimes, I ‘m too tired to broaden my understanding and patience for these kind of people. I get tired of putting things in perspective. I even want to turn my back on them and cut the fragile tie that binds us- the blood lineage which i didn’t choose at all. But then again, am i ready to become a nibbler like them? Definitely not. They will reap what they deserve in due time. I will not even wish them an ill-fated life. Why should I in the first place? I will not shed a single tear, spare a simple smile nor a mere thought about their godforsaken life. As a famous tagalog line goes, “BAKIT, SINO KA BA?” At the end of the day, the lingering truth will flow through every blood vessel in our human body. Those nibblers are just foreign matters, bacterias to be specific, which our leukocytes (white blood cells) continuously battle. They come and go yet difficult to eradicate. They pretend to be part of the the body’s normal flora, yet a macrophage can totally and completely engulf them. They could also be lethal viruses, but there will always be the anti-virals to counteract their effects, though they are self-limiting. To make things short, we need strict isolation precautions because they are highly transmissible diseases! Sounds like jargons? Read between the lines and you’ll get what i mean. Lastly, i recall a certain line from Akon’s song “Dangerous” which states, “That girl is so dangerous, that girl is a bad girl…”, period! No more, no less…The pen is still mightier than the sword afterall…Very well said and written! Xiao!…=)♦
